FLYERS SIGN COUTURIER TO THREE-YEAR ENTRY-LEVEL CONTRACT

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed 2011 first-round draft pick Sean Couturier to a three-year entry-level contract.

Couturier was taken eighth overall this June with the pick Philadelphia acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets along with Jakub Voracek in exchange for sniper Jeff Carter.

He has impressed thus far in Flyers camp, building on a strong rookie camp showing to score a goal and an assist in the team's pre-season opener against Toronto.

Once slated to go as high as first overall in the draft, Couturier's stock slipped on draft day because of a disappointing finish to the 2010-11 QMJHL season.

In 58 games with Drummondville Voltigeurs, Couturier scored 36 goals and 60 assists, and added 36 penalty minutes.

He also suited up for Team Canada at the 2011 World Junior Championship in Buffalo.
