Shawcross keen on United scalp

Ryan Shawcross believes Stoke can beat his former club Manchester United when the teams meet at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.

The Potters fell to their first defeat of the season at Sunderland last weekend, while the Red Devils are yet to be beaten this term.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side have made a blistering start to the Premier League season, winning all five games and scoring 21 goals in the process.

Stoke are also looking to overturn a run of results that has seen them fail to beat United for 27 years.

Tony Pulis has already ended the unbeaten run of Liverpool this season after claiming their first win against West Brom.
Shawcross was at Old Trafford for six years before signing for the Staffordshire outfit in 2008 and the defender is looking to kick-start more good form this weekend.

Reality check

"Last weekend's 4-0 defeat at Sunderland was probably a bit of a reality check for us to be honest.

"But we move on now and must set our sights on another unbeaten run.

"It will be hard to start that off against United as they are a top team - but everyone is beatable.

"If we have the fans right behind us and perform in a way we know we can, we know we have a chance."
