Frankie Dettori leads Godolphin's Lyric of Light home

Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin stable continued its good run with success in Newmarket's Group One Shadwell Fillies' Mile with Lyric Of Light.

Frankie Dettori's ride, in retaining her unbeaten record (three from three), trailed long-time leader Samitar going into the final straight.

And Dettori had to use all his strength to push her forward, winning on the line ahead of Firdaws in third.

"She was unbalanced towards the end of the race," was the Italian's verdict.

"She didn't like the [good to firm] ground either."

Both Lyric Of Light and Samitar are climbing up the reckoning for next year's 1000 Guineas, back at Newmarket in May for which Godolphin has a better-fancied contender in Discourse.

Although the Sheikh's stable has no number one trainer as such, the result of the Fillies' Mile - transferred from Ascot as part as of the re-arrangements surrounding the new British Champions Day - represented the latest victory for the increasingly successful Mahmood al Zarooni.

Appointed in March 2010, Al Zarooni took both the Newmarket 1000 Guineas and Irish Oaks this year with Blue Bunting, whose success in the Yorkshire Oaks in August was her trainer's 100th since taking over his licence.

He may travel Lyric Of Light to Kentucky in November for the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies race.
